At a recent meeting The Cheyney University Alumni Chapter of Delaware County presented a $1750 gift for Cheyney University scholarships. The funds were generated at the 3rd annual MLK Jr. Scholarship Gala held on January 14, 2012. President of the DELCO chapter, Alumna Rosalyn Johnson, added $500 to the proceeds, raising the value of the gift to $2250.
Gaynelle Lewis, past chapter president and current treasurer notes, “For the University’s 175th anniversary, the gift reached $1750. The Chapter also supports university students through book scholarships on an ongoing basis, and plans to provide several book scholarships in the 2012-13 academic year. Individually, DELCO members have purchased bricks, and many DELCO members make annual donations and attend university events. What better reason is there than to raise money to support Cheyney University students?”
Gregory Benjamin, Director of Alumni Relations, attended the presentation. “DELCO has been very generous with scholarship support, making a $2000 donation even before the Alumni Scholarship Fund was begun. Since 2005, the Chapter has awarded more than $10,000 in scholarships,” notes Benjamin.
The 2012 annual Scholarship Gala was one of the Chapter’s most successful events with 175 guests attending and receiving donations from members who were unable to attend. The 4th annual MLK Gala is scheduled for January 14, 2013.
