Philadelphia, PA-Dr. Juan Baughn, Special Consultant to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, will speak at the President’s Legacy Brunch at Cheyney University on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 10 am in the Ada S. Georges Hall. Dr. Baughn, a 1966 graduate of Cheyney University has graciously agreed to fulfill this role that had been held by Jim Vance, Washington Newscaster and Cheyney University alum who had a last minute conflict. Dr. Baughn is also an Educational Leadership Development Specialist for the National Institute for School Leaders. He will speak to the theme “Cheyney University 2010: Home Again”.
The Legacy Brunch is the closing activity of homecoming and provides the opportunity for alumni and others to celebrate the Legacy Family (a family that has a significant number of Cheyney alumni). This year’s Legacy Family is the Beatty Family from Philadelphia with eleven (11) alumni. Additionally, a Legacy Award is being presented to Mrs. Ardean (Miss Dee) DeVaughn former manager of the Cheyney Snack Bar who will turn 100 in January. Most alumni have very fond memories of Miss Dee and will be glad to see her.
Dr. Michelle R. Howard-Vital will greet alumni and share in the presentation of the Legacy Awards with Dr. Sandra Countley, President, Cheyney University National Alumni Association. The program also features a memorial service for alum that have passed since last year’s homecoming, a performance by the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Gospel Quarter and a solo by Alicia Beatty.
