On October 27, 2013, Cynthia Williams, Class of 1968, along with her family and friends participated in their first Lupus Walk at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, located near Memorial Hall.

Ayana Williams-Smith, team leader coined the phrase “Rasheed Wins” in memory of her twin brother, Rasheed Williams, who passed away suddenly from Lupus on April 10, 2013.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body including the skin, joints, and organs inside the body. Lupus is more common, may occur at a very young age, and is more severe in African Americans and other ethnic groups.

The Circle of Friends Award, Bronze Level, was presented to Cynthia Williams and daughter, Ayana, on December 13, 2013 for raising $1,200.00. The family wishes to than the Cheyney University Alumni Chapter of Delaware County for their generous donation.

May is World Lupus Month. Put on Purple Day (POP) is Friday, May 16, 2014. The 23rd Annual Lupus Loop 5K Run/2.5 Walk will occur on Sunday, October 26, 2014 in Philadelphia, PA.
