Scholarships

The Cheyney University National Alumni Association is proud to recognize the academic achievements, community and university involvement, and outstanding potential of current and incoming students by offering a few scholarships each year to qualified candidates. The Cheyney University National Alumni Association and its chapters help students reach their academic goals by awarding scholarship funds annually.

Incoming students and those who are currently enrolled at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania are encouraged to download the CUNAA Scholarship Application form and apply for any of the following scholarships.

PLEASE NOTE: Applying for a scholarship does NOT guarantee you will receive an award.

The W. McKinley Menchan & Katherine Russell Wilson Scholarship – $1,500

Applicant must be an incoming freshman and has applied and been accepted to Cheyney University for the current academic year. Consideration will be given to those students who: rank in the top 20% of their high school graduating class, have a minimum combined SAT score of 800 (or ACT composite score of 17), and have made significant contributions to their community and / or school. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. to retain the scholarship for the second semester. The scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen only. Recipients are not eligible to reapply once they have completed their freshman year.

Barbara Daniel-Cox Memorial Scholarship $1,500

The Barbara Daniel Cox Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a full time female student with a
G.P.A. of 2.5 or better. Consideration will be given to those students who are involved in campus activities and community organizations. Applicants must complete a 350-word essay, “How does obtaining a degree at Cheyney University fit into your overall career goals as it relates to your field of study?” Scholarship is non-renewable.

Professor Edgar “Sonny” Harris Memorial Scholarship $1,500

The Professor “Sonny” Harris Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student with a
G. P. A. of 2.7 or better. Preference will be given to those students who are STEM majors. Applicants must complete a 350-word essay, “How does obtaining a degree at Cheyney University fit into your overall career goals as it relates to your field of study?” Scholarship is non-renewable.

The Ashley H. Cooke, Sr. Scholarship $1,500

This scholarship will be granted to a full-time student with a G.P.A. of 2.5 or better; for sophomores, juniors, and seniors only. Applicants must write an essay that includes their reasons for attending Cheyney University and cite community service activities in school and the community. Scholarship is non-renewable.

James A. Daisy Jones Scholarship $1,000

The Cheyney University Alumni Chapter of Philadelphia is the proud sponsor of the James A. and Daisy Jones Scholarship for $1,000. Students must have a 3.0 G.P.A. or above, exhibit financial need and a commitment to complete his/her degree at Cheyney University. This scholarship is renewable contingent upon maintaining a 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. For more information, please contact the Philadelphia Chapter.

Cassie Stuart Scott Scholarship $1,000

The Cheyney University Alumni Chapter of Philadelphia is the proud sponsor of the Cassie Stuart Scott Scholarship for $1,000. The student must: be enrolled as a full-time student; be an upcoming sophomore; have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 or better; and have made a significant contribution to Cheyney University through activities or service. The Class of 1947 Marcus Foster Memorial Scholarship $1,500

The Marcus Foster Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior with preference given to those who have graduated from Simon Gratz High School and who will attend Cheyney University. Students must show evidence of financial need. Applicants are therefore requested to include an explanation of financial requirements. Scholarship is non-renewable.

The Elvira Wilson Scholarship $1,500

The Elvira Wilson Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who are accepted to Cheyney with a high school G.P.A. of 3.0 or better and an 800 or more combined SAT score (or ACT composite score of 17). Applicants are required to write an essay and should cite in their essay his/her community involvement as well as the reason(s) for choosing Cheyney University to further his/her education. Scholarship is non-renewable.  This is awarded via the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter.

The Booker Reeves/Sylvester Pace Scholarship $1,500

The student must: Be enrolled as a full-time student at Cheyney University of PA; have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 or better; and show evidence of financial need. To receive the matching scholarship, up to $1,500, the student must receive a PHEAA State Grant and have applied for a student loan. See the Director of Financial Aid for detailed information. Applicants must complete a 350-word essay, “How does obtaining a degree at Cheyney University fit into your overall career goals as it relates to your field of study?” Scholarship is non-renewable.

Eunice Murray Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area Cheyney University Alumni Chapter is the proud sponsor of the Eunice Murray Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund is designed to encourage students as they complete their undergraduate education to pursue lives that will benefit themselves and their fellow men and women. The Fund is a restricted cash grant that will be awarded to college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania who have demonstrated passion, dedication, and a high capacity for self-direction and originality in pursuit of a goal that will strengthen civil society. 1837 Scholarship Book Fund

The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area Cheyney University Alumni Chapter is the proud sponsor of the 1837 Scholarship Book Fund. The mission of the 1837 Scholarship Book Fund is to provide students from the Washington, D.C. Metro Area with the funds necessary to assist them in the purchasing of textbooks. our scholarships are given to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and whose address of record is from the Northern Virginia, Southern Maryland, and Washington, D.C. jurisdictions. Ed Bradley Scholarship $1,500

This scholarship will be granted to a full-time student with a G.P.A of 2.7 or better, sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in English or Communication Arts. Applicants must complete a 350-word essay, “How does obtaining a degree at Cheyney University fit into your overall career goals as it relates to your field of study?” Scholarship is non-renewable.

Wade Wilson, Ph.D Scholarship $1,500

The Wade Wilson Ph. D. Scholarship will be granted to a full time student with a G. P. A. of 2.7 or better, sophomores, juniors, and seniors majoring in Graphic Design or Fine Arts. Applicants must complete a 350 word essay, “How does obtaining a degree at Cheyney University fit into your overall career goals as it relates to your field of study?” Scholarship is non-renewable.

Fannie Jackson Coppin Scholarship $1,500

This scholarship will be granted to a full-time student with a G.P.A of 2.7 or better, sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in Hotel Restaurant & Tourism Management. Applicants must complete a 350-word essay, “How does obtaining a degree at Cheyney University fit into your overall career goals as it relates to your field of study?” Scholarship is non-renewable.
